</style></head><body style="overflow-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; line-break: after-white-space;"><div>Dear EtherLab users,</div><div><br></div><div>We are proud to announce the release 1.6.0 of the EtherCAT Master. The new</div><div>version includes some new API methods [1] and an updated range of native</div><div>Ethernet drivers [2] up to kernel 6.1. A detailed list of the tickets and merge</div><div>requests that have been incorporated, can be found at the appropriate GitLab</div><div>milestone [3].</div><div><br></div><div>Some of you may have already noticed that the “stable-1.6” branch is now the</div><div>default branch that is automatically checked out when cloning the repository.</div><div>The previous “master” branch has also been renamed to “devel”. Some of its</div><div>changes have been incorporated into 1.6, but not all of them.</div><div><br></div><div>We have also changed our release policy to the effect that from version 1.6 we</div><div>will be using semantic versioning. This means that for any interface</div><div>enhancements, the minor version will now increase. The consequence is that,</div><div>unlike in recent years, we will be making more frequent releases again. As a</div><div>conclusion for the 1.5 branch, we have created a release 1.5.3 (the last one</div><div>that does not follow Semantic Versioning). The releases and the corresponding</div><div>tarballs can be found on Gitlab [4]. Ready-made packages for common Linux</div><div>distributions are available in the Open Build Service [5].</div><div><br></div><div>Support for kernel versions earlier than 3.0 has been cut.</div><div><br></div><div>We hope you enjoy the new version, which can and should be used immediately for</div><div>productive machines and systems.</div><div><br></div><div>[1] <a href="https://docs.etherlab.org/ethercat/1.6/doxygen/group__ApplicationInterface.html#details">https://docs.etherlab.org/ethercat/1.6/doxygen/group__ApplicationInterface.html#details</a></div><div>[2] <a href="https://docs.etherlab.org/ethercat/1.6/doxygen/devicedrivers.html">https://docs.etherlab.org/ethercat/1.6/doxygen/devicedrivers.html</a></div><div>[3] <a href="https://gitlab.com/etherlab.org/ethercat/-/milestones/1">https://gitlab.com/etherlab.org/ethercat/-/milestones/1</a></div><div>[4] <a href="https://gitlab.com/etherlab.org/ethercat/-/releases">https://gitlab.com/etherlab.org/ethercat/-/releases</a></div><div>[5] <a href="https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/science:EtherLab/ethercat">https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/science:EtherLab/ethercat</a></div><div><br></div><div><span><pre>-- <br></pre><div><div>Best regards,<br> Florian Pose<br><br><span style="font-size:12px;"> Dipl.-Ing.
