To Whomever,

Our company uses the Etherlab ethercat (1.4) drivers with RTAI for an
industrial controls language package that we developed. One one site we're
getting frequent error messages:

We normally get this if etherlab/ethercat domans are reconfigured and
restarted but at this facility we're getting messages several times a
minute. Sometimes the unit lose communications with some modules and it
takes some time for the system to reconfigure (as seen running "ethercat
slaves").

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the cause might be? We've
replaced modules, replaced interface cards? We haven't seen this at other
installations with the same software.

I have a second question as well. The documentation/information on the page
for the 1.5 generic driver indicates that the generic drive is not
compatible with RTAI. What does this mean? Does that mean if I have RTAI
installed but use the generic driver with a user space program it won't
work, i.e., the RTAI patches break the generic driver ... or does it just
mean that the generic driver cannot be used with an RTAI scheduled kernel
module or LXRT scheduled program?

Thanks in advance,

Mark Olson
