I spoke to my Hilscher contact and he told me, that if you are using a
special older slave, the SII addressable area can be very small. Please
contact the Hilscher support for this, because this can be clarified
only, when the exact slave type is known. The support request will
hopefully end up at my contact's desktop.

I'm wondering if something can be done on the master side. There is a
size field in the SII data, that specifies the complete size of the
memory behind the SII. Could you please post the two different EEPROM
contents either gzipped in binary form or piped through 'hexdump -C'?
