could you please specify, which version you use? In 1.3, the file nodes
are created under sysfs, below the /sys directory. Note, that these are
no character device nodes! In 1.4, the sysfs interface was completely dropped
and replaced by the ethercat command-line tool.

For 1.4, have a look at the NEWS file, or the documentation chapters 7
and 9, or the INSTALL file.
