Then either try to pad the following PDOs with 7 bits, or map the one
bit after the 8-bit PDO entries. ;-)

As you experienced, it is indeed ugly to have byte- or multi-byte
values, that are not byte-aligned. That's why slave vendors usually
don't do such things...
