[etherlab-users] EtherCAT Master used from user mode

Hi Andre

We use the etherlab master on a RTPREEMPT kernel and did some very
excessive performance measurements:

We used an update cycle of 250 µs and measured the jitter on a Beckhoff
analog output device with an oszilloscope.
We even ran a Windows GUI app in a vmware environment.

The jitter was less than 50µs and the time used by the master was less
than 3µs.

We detected that the jitter depends highly on the PC hardware (AND the
linux kernel version, esp. graphics board drivers) and is not really
affected by the master.

After those measurements, we decided to rely on the etherlab master
running on a RT-PREEMPTed linux for our future projects.

As of today, we steadily improve the userspace interface of the master
and send the changes as patches to Florian Pose.

Regards

Martin
