Hi Matt,

You have to implement application layer with 8/16 uC interface. This is only
PDI, and the slave's application layer (implemented either in uC or FPGA) is
responsible for state transition in EtherCAT system. Master requests the OP
state, but the slave application is responsible  for switching from previous
to the next state.

It is most easily for you to start with Bechoff's SSC (I think for 8/16 uC
interface minor changes in code are to be done). It would be good starting
point. I have no personal experience with 8/16 uC interface, but only with SPI
interface in conjuction with Beckhoff's SSC. My plan is to further investigate
this interfaces and definitely post my experiences on this forum.
