The copyright notes are not outdated. Like stated in the
documentation, the master itself is licensed under GPLv2, while the
userspace library is licensed under LGPLv2. So any application (also
proprietary ones) can link against the library.

No, the COPYING.LESSER is indeed LGPLv3, but this is a mistake (it was
automally added by autotools). Thanks for the hint, I'll correct that.
The valid licenses are in the file headers.
