Actually, all the examples included with Etherlab do demonstrate
synchronising the reference clock to the master clock (via
ecrt_master_sync_reference_clock).

It is possible to have the master read the reference clock (via
ecrt_mater_reference_clock_time) and adapt to it instead, although there
aren't any formal examples that use this approach.  There was some code
posted to the newsgroup a few years ago, however.
